Cream with caramel!
Imagine the skill needed to crochet this insert.
Not only does the gauge have to be correct,
but the top and bottom of the design aren't
directly opposite each other, so the woman who
crocheted this needed to adjust where she
sewed the edging to make it meet the points
perfectly. It's not just a skill, this is ART.

Think art isn't a worthwhile course in our
schools? Think again. An artist designed
this silver tray. An artist also designed the
chair you're sitting on, the car you're
driving, the clothes you're wearing, the pictures
on your wall, your dishes and flatware, and
the list goes on and on.
If your children want to study art, let them,
encourage them! Don't let your school
boards cut their art programs.
Artists don't always end up starving in
garrets! The opportunities are endless.

Hear, hear!! Well written Diane - we NEED art programs in the schools, if for nothing else than to feed our souls.
Amen! Great post girl! Hugs!
Bravo! *Insert very loud applause here*
Both my son and daughter studied art, my daughter uses her skills to enhance her home and bless others with her amazing pencil portrait work and my son is an extremely talented and gainfully employed graphic artist. One uses their skill as a profession and the other for pleasure and I think they are equally important.
Art has served me well in large and small areas of learning and earning an income over the years. It allowed me to work from home and raise my children but more importantly is has given me the deepest joy and most abiding pleasure to create something.
I too avidly support the arts!
Your words could come from my mouth ,too-dear Diane-
here in DK, they have also scaled down the art related hours, and there are not many recourses used on that part of the learning....maybe learning has to evolve, but not by taking those art related hours away from the study -as done in the small classes here.
By the way I love your silver tray.
Hugs, Dorthe
I agree 100%. The schools are cutting phys ed, art, music - these things are essential to rounding out kids. There's more to life than numbers and electronics!
Thanks for visiting :)
And what is not to love about old silver?
Agreed!
Hehehe! Paint dolls... A very good idea indeed ;))
And what to say about your post? I completely agree!
Hugs!
Yes, all so true...and inspiring.
Amen! How else to build self worth than to have the opportunity to express oneself through art. It's the beginning of learning.
Crocheting on ric-rac is an old art, done by inserting a fine hook into the edge, just as you would when crocheting onto the edge of fabric. That's a wonderful find!
I have never crochet, but I so appreciate the art, oh I would let my child do anything he choose. If you love art you will never be able to stifle the love!

Diane,
I so agree. They need to keep art in the schools. I'm still trying to get over the fact that cursive writing is gone. Computers have taken over our life.

AMEN my friend. So very true. What a wonderful post in support of the arts.
For me it all started with my grandmother who could design endless silver needle crochet doilies that were real works of art. My mother also could produce beauties. Art has been apart of my entire life. And, it was encouraged and studied starting in elementary school. So many with young children tell me, today the funds to support these courses are few. Very sad! The development of great talent to come needs to be directed.
Thank you for stiring this toppic.
Hugs and Blessings, Celestina Marie
I heard a discussion on the radio that Idahoans were having regarding school budget cuts and whether to cut the sports or music and art programs. It was mentioned that art and music are much more pertinent to education because they involve math, reading skills and so on. So here's to art in our schools!
